Tightly Bunched Chargers Tie for 7th in Event at TPC Deere Run

The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team had all four of its scorers finish within a shot of each other as the Chargers tied for seventh at the Duane Chanay Invite on Tuesday at TPC Deere Run.

Playing at the home of the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic, sophomores Grant Otting (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge) and Trace White (Mount Pleasant, Iowa/Mount Pleasant) each finished with an 11-over-par 82 to tie for 35th in the 81-player field.

Freshmen Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) and Calvin Peterson (Williamsfield, Ill./Williamsfield) each added an 83 to tie for 44th and complete Sandburg’s 330 total. Cooper Beck (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA), competing as an individual, also carded an 83. Sophomore Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) shot an 88 for the Chargers.

Sandburg tied Illinois Central for seventh in the team standings. Aurora won the event with a 294 total. Runner-up Heartland’s 304 was the best score among community colleges.

Aurora’s Jack Vercautren shot a 2-under 69 to take medalist honors.
